Top 2024 UFL Players Who Are Free Agents

As the UFL approaches two weeks away from training camp, there are plenty of talented players from last year that are available to be signed to rosters.

There has been an influx of new players signing with the UFL in the offseason that shows new faces to the league. The league could also be missing out on returning players who are sitting out there in the market to be signed.

Some might need convincing to come back for the 2025 season and some are waiting to pick up the phone to be called. Here’s a look at some players who are available that can still be signed.

QB A.J. McCarron (Previous Team: St. Louis Battlehawks)

This is the obvious one, but McCarron would be someone most UFL teams would be foaming at the mouth to have. Following the news of the Battlehawks and McCarron mutually agreeing to part ways, it opened the door for arguably the top free agent in the UFL.

McCarron has been the face of spring football over the last two years as he has thrown for 3,732 yards and 39 touchdowns to 10 interceptions. The Battlehawks won seven games in each season with McCarron as the signal caller and led the team to the playoffs last year.

It’s not known whether McCarron will return to the UFL as he has talked about possibly retiring but it would be worth the UFL to reach out and try to convince him to go for one more season. While the Birmingham Stallions are stacked at quarterback, McCarron coming home to the same state he went to college makes sense.

RB Darius Victor (Previous Team: Memphis Showboats)

Any spring football fan knows that Victor is well known for his lower body strength as the saying goes “thick thighs saves lives.” He has lived by that slogan since running over defenses in the XFL back in 2020.

Victor’s breakout performances came in the USFL with the New Jersey Generals in two seasons where he ran for over 1,000 yards and 13 touchdowns. He was named USFL Offensive Player of the Year and to the All-USFL team in 2022.

Last season with the Showboats, Victor finished with 391 yards and four touchdowns. Victor took home the UFL Sportsman of the Year award.

Age is starting to become a factor for Victor as he will be 31 years old by the time the UFL season starts, but last season showed that he still some juice to be a leading back for any team. Memphis has gone through turnover this offseason, but there are options for Victor to pick if given the chance.

DE Chris Odom (Previous Team: Houston Roughnecks)

This past week’s news reported by PFN’s James Larsen regarding the mutual parting ways of Odom and the Roughnecks was a surprising move. It leaves one of spring football’s best pass rushers in the last six years available to be signed.

Odom started rampaging offensive lines as far back as the AAF’s Salt Lake City Stallions in 2019. He has posted 20 sacks between the AAF, USFL and UFL. Twice in his career he has been named as an All-League selection in 2022 (USFL) and 2024 (UFL). He was also named the 2022 USFL Defensive Player of the Year.

Last season was a slow return to form for Odom after missing all of 2023 with a season-ending injury he suffered with the Cleveland Browns in 2022. His elite speed off the edge and ability to find the quarterback would make him an easy choice to bring in to be at least a rotational third down pass rusher.

DE Taco Charlton (Previous Team: Birmingham Stallions)

Former NFL first round pick Charlton has not returned to the Stallions, yet which is a surprise after having a stellar season. The Stallions’ defensive line was among the best in getting to the quarterback and Charlton was a big reason for that.

Charlton finished tied for fourth in the UFL in sacks with six while adding 15 tackles, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery in all 10 regular season games. Despite having one of the best seasons by a UFL defender, he finished second on the team in sacks behind Carlos Davis.

The 30-year-old pass rusher would fit into the same role that Odom could in being a pass rusher in certain packages on certain downs. Bringing in Charlton gives a team a player who has had years of solid NFL experience with the Dallas Cowboys which is a strength in the UFL.
