The ELF continues to attract former NFL coaches and players with the league picking up one of the most decorated players to date.

Former NFL wide receiver Keelan Cole signed with the Helvetic Mercenaries in a post made by the league on social media Friday morning. It’s already being hyped as one of the best signings the league has ever had and with good reason.

Cole was not selected in the 2017 NFL Draft out of Western Kentucky as he signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars. He exploded onto the scene early with an impressive 748 yards and three touchdowns with those yards being the highest of his NFL career.

Jacksonville would view him as a solid number two and number three receiver on the team through the 2020 season. In four seasons with the Jaguars, Cole caught 159 receptions for 2,242 yards and 12 touchdowns.

His final three seasons in the NFL were spent with the New York Jets and the Las Vegas Raiders. Cole had 38 catches for 590 yards and two touchdowns. 2023 was his final season in the NFL as he spent the year on the Raiders’ practice squad.

This is the third season Helvetic has a franchise in the ELF with the first two years being bumpy roads for the team. They only won four total games with last season being a struggle for the Mercenaries as they went 1-11 and were tied for the worst record.

Cole’s addition gives the new-look Mercenaries offense the face lift needed to make them contenders. He will join 2024 ELF Rookie of the Year receiver Milan Spiller after posting 1,008 yards and five touchdowns. The team also has a new quarterback in Isaiah Weed who joins the team after playing for the Cologne Centurions last year.

The speed of Spiller and Cole’s experience has overnight made this offense into a high-flying unit. Cole can be used on special teams as a returner as he does have one punt return for a touchdown in his NFL career. He will create more opportunities for Spiller to get open making game planning for defenses hard.

2025 looks primed to be the best season in Mercenaries’ franchise history. More importantly, it keeps adding credibility for ELF as they continue to bring in good talent with solid NFL resumes.
